From Farm to Cup: How Our Partnership with Azahar Coffee Fuels Control Freak

Behind every perfectly dialed-in cup of Control Freak Coffee is a lot of intentional work and some truly amazing partners.

We work with Azahar Coffee, a sourcing and exporting company based in Armenia, Colombia, that connects us directly to smallholder farmers across regions like Quindío, southern Huila, and Nariño. Azahar doesn’t just buy and sell coffee; they build systems that elevate farmers, create transparency, and bring world-class coffee to roasters who care about how it’s grown and who grows it.

Our relationship with Azahar started back in 2015, and it’s been built on shared values: intentional sourcing, constant learning, and full traceability. They help us bring together the different components that make up Control Freak’s caffeine spectrum, from our caffeinated lots to our decaf (Sugarcane EA process), ensuring each coffee, regardless of its caffeine level, meets the same high standard of flavor and ethics.

Farm to Cup isn’t a slogan; it’s our operating system.

It means we’re involved in every part of the process. We work directly with coffee producers around the world, families and cooperatives we’ve built multi-year relationships with, to ensure stability, transparency, and mutual growth. These relationships are built on shared respect, fair pay (often double the fair trade rate), and a shared obsession with quality.

Our Farm to Cup model doesn’t stop with sourcing; it extends to our people. After five years of employment, every Stone Creek team member earns the opportunity to take a trip to origin, where they experience coffee at its roots: the farms, the pickers, the processors, and the communities that make each cup possible. It’s not a vacation, it’s an education. It connects the dots between the hands that grow the coffee and the hands that serve it, deepening our collective understanding of what it means to be in this work.

We call it Farm to Cup, but really, it’s People to People. Farmers, roasters, baristas, drinkers: all connected by care and craft.
